Hail

Last night we were enjoying our quiet evening with 6 kids (not sure it ever gets quiet), when we started to hear light tapping on the windows.  Within a couple minutes it was more than a light tapping.  It sounded like rocks hitting the house.  We peaked out at the hail coming down.  It was quite amazing to see.  The hail stones were the size of golf balls.  We very quickly all ran to the front to watch.  The beauty of a covered front porch is you get to watch these amazing Midwest storms in relative safety.  A couple of the kids choose to stay inside but most of us watched from the porch.

We didn't let the kids venture out to pick up hail stones until the hail stopped, so the hail had melted considerably before they got their hands on it.

It left several ding marks on one of our trucks.  The back of our house has quite a few holes and cracks in it.

Just in case you want to hear what it sounds like to have hail that size hitting the house I recorded it.  The flashes of light is all the lightning, not the camera man.  The bad focus job is the camera man.
