Duluth --Grandma's Marathon

June 17th and 18th we headed up to Duluth for Grandma's Marathon.  Really only Dale was going for the marathon.  The rest of us went just to hang out and watch the "crazy" runners.  Erin and Mark were at   EFY so we only had 4 of the kids with us.

The boys found their buddy.

We ran into Elaine's swim coach from her 8th grade year.  She offered to take a photo of us.

The boys decided that goofy faces were the way to pose.

More goofiness.

It was a beautiful day, a little on the cool side.

Elaine teased us for taking a picture with sunglasses, but if we took them off we squinted too bad.

One of my beautiful daughters.   The wind didn't want to blow the hair gently to make a nice photo.  Oh well.

If you are only 3 1/2 feet tall the perfect place to watch the 5k start is from the top of a dumpster.  Looks like if you are a tall elegant 5'9" it is a good spot also.  (It was clean as far as dumpsters go.  I checked.)

You have to admit it is a bit funny to walk by and see feet sticking out of a tent that is on it's way up.

Saturday dawned grey and rainy.  Oh did I mention it felt like we were heading back into winter.  It was in the 40s.  Dale ran like a trooper.

We made motivational signs.

This was mile 13.2.  It took us almost as long to get back to the finish line as it did Dale.  We did get there in time to make a quick pit stop and get back outside to cheer.  We were all glad to get back in the car when it was over.  Did I mention it was cold?  Great job Dale.

  1. First, it is good to see that the next generations is holding strong to the tradition of awesome photo faces. Well done. Second, I love Joe's sign. That is awesome. :o) Third, I did NOT know that it is ok to watch things from the top of a dumpster when you are an elegant 5'9". What if you are a clumsy 5'8"?
