A couple days before Elaine and I left for the Grand Canyon we took the kids to a Twins game. Dale checked several games that week and decided on Friday night. The other games were either during the scorching heat or some predicted severe weather. By the time Friday rolled around the weather had a few little tricks up it's sleeve. We thought it would be fun to take the kids on the train to the stadium.
Waiting at the station with all the other Twins Fans.
Funny how the little one imitates the bigger one, probably not even thinking about it.
On the train and ready for some fun.
Grant's first Twin's game at the new stadium. (Sorry about picture quality, that is as good as an i-phone would do.)
About 1/2 hour after the game was suppose to start, we discovered that the nose bleed seats had some real advantages. The game had been postponed because of weather and the seats we had were covered and kept quite a bit of the rain off. As Dale was checking the weather on his phone he read that we had a wind gust advisory. We were wondering what a wind gust was vs just heavy wind. About 2 minutes later we found out. It just came out of no where and was quite startling. It was a little eerie up so high with these strong winds. Mark decided to go to the top and look over the edge. He had to hold on the the wire cage or it would blow him over.
After the wind gusts came the spectacular clouds, thunder, lightning, and rain. The stadium workers came to tell us to take cover. About half way down it started pouring so Dale said lets just go back to the seats. Great idea except we have a very scared 9 and 10 year old who went on a wild dash to the lower concourse.
This is what it looks like when you wait out a big thunderstorm and down pour with thousands of other people. We did have a very kind gentleman move into the rain to make room for our little guys. He could see they were trying very hard to hold it together. (Just don't think about the fact you are squeezed in there like sardines and you don't like tight places.)
Excitement at it's best.
Ok, weather let up, game is 1 1/2 hour delayed but we are having fun. Hotdogs eaten, soda's gone, about 10 trips to the restroom.
The camera had a hard time picking up the spectacular city skyline. This is right before the game started. We did finally get to watch the game and fireworks. Then it was time to head back to the train station. The train leaves 1/2 hour after the game ends. This is all fine and dandy if you don't happen to get totally turned around and it takes you 25 minutes to find the station with some very tired kids in tow at 12:30 am. We made it with a couple minutes to spare and got home about 1:30. We were all very glad the next day was Saturday with nothing going on in the morning. Can you say SLEEP IN!!
