Spring Break - Texas

We were all excited to head down to Texas for our spring break.  We figured we would be leaving the cool weather behind and soaking up the sun.  Texas greated us with a few days of rain before the sun decided to peak out and say "hi".  Meanwhile Minnesota was receiving it's share of record breaking high temperatures.  To relieve the pent up energy of little boys who are aching to wiggle and move, Mindy whipped up some gingerbread cookies Sunday night to let the kids decorate.

The sprinkles were a big hit.

There was a bunch of finger licking involved.

The next day we headed out to Barzos State park.  Rumor had it from a friend in Mindy's ward you could see wild alligators.  First we stopped at the Nature Center.  They let the kids pet a 7 month old alligator.  My sweet nephew, Curtis, said "Is this the one I get to take home?"  Luckily the park guide said no.

After a picnic and still no gators we set off for a different area of the park.  We hit the jackpot.  This was our first find close to the shore.  The kids were excited to get close.

This was the deadly spot I had my brush with Texas fire ants.  Those things are ruthless.

One of the bigger ones up close.

The plan when we got to Texas was to put some tents in the back yard and give everyone a bit of space.  The rain changed the plans and it turned into a giant slumber party.

We headed out to Galveston.  Our first stop was a boat ride to see some dolphins.  Dale took some of the kids last time and they saw a bunch of them.  Here is my dolphin loving kid, very excited to see some.  Sadly we saw the fins of two, and he missed that.  (Also, as a side note, this is my last picture of my baby with all his baby teeth.)

Beautiful weather for the boat ride.

So......we got home and Mark asked if I got any pictures of them while at the beach.  I had to inform him I got about 4, I was too busy playing in the waves with the boogie board.  This is a picture of Grant and Erin catching a wave.

I also got the boys digging in the sand.  But I assure you we had a great time.  It resulted in some awful sunburns with blisters and some severe dehydration.  We had to take the next day off.

Our last day we went to the Oil Ranch.  While driving home from dinner the night before this was the conversation I heard in the car,  Jared- "Why is milking a cow so fun."  Curtis - "Well you see you get to touch this slimy utter."  It was "utterly" hilarious to listen to these two.  Curtis was telling Jared about the Oil Ranch and Jared was so excited to check it out.   Jared and Curtis had it all mapped out.  They would milk the cow and then ride the horses.

Elaine and Erin decided to pose as farmers.

Joe riding like a city slicker.

Here is my baby with his missing tooth.  He looks a bit like Huck Fin.  Due to a severe sunburn on his face we bought him a hat.  He also had a very swollen face.  Poor kid.  He is wearing Curtis's green shirt in celebration for St. Patricks Day and Mindy's birthday.

These are two adorable buddies.  Just wish they lived closer.

Jared got to feed a cow.

This is one sweet little baby.

The boy hates having his picture taken unless it is a pose of some weird sort.

The boys enjoyed the miniature golf also.

Dale was excited to take a ride on his green tractor.  We didn't have the heart to tell him it had 4 flat tires.

The maze sparked a bit of  competition.  Ready, set, GO!!

Of course there were a few that were a little more competitive than others.

The kids and adults all enjoyed this swing.  Too bad they had to share it with others at the Ranch.  Erin caught some air.

The baby goats were adorable, only a few days old.

Official members of the lost "toof" club.

Earning his keep.

Looking a bit worn out and ready for a 20 hour nap in the car.
